Lucas is of Latin origin, from the word “lucere”, and a variant of Lucius, which means “bringer of light; illumination.” It also derives from the ancient Greek name of “Loukás” (Λουκᾶς) , which means “Man from Lucania”, a southern part of Greece which stays bathed in sunlight year-round. Also, the name “Lucas”, with its first letter of “L”, shares the distinction with the letters “J” and “A” as being the most popular first letters of boys’ first names in America!
