Sharon's Story

I’ve been asked over the years how LindseyBoo Creations began.
This is my story…
I became a mother at a relatively “older” age – I was 36 when our daughter, Lindsey, was born. I had waited many years to be a mother and I was so happy to be a mom. Unfortunately, I had to continue working full-time and, before her birth, I didn’t realize how hard that would be. I know that many mothers work and juggle their work/home responsibilities very well and I respect them immensely, but I was one of the mothers who just wanted to stay home with her baby.
I prayed for an answer. I felt I had no choice but to keep working outside of the home. I was a legal secretary working at a law firm located almost an hour away, so the commute was long and arduous (over a mountain, no less). Still, I kept working and praying.
Finally, one day, as I was rocking and feeding Lindsey in her nursery, I looked over at a sweet name poem that had been given to me/Lindsey as a baby gift. It was a simple poem, and I wondered if I could write something a little more personal, along with the origin and meaning. I had always loved to write poetry – my mother was a published poet – and I decided to write a name poem for Lindsey. I wrote the poem, and included the origin and meaning at the top of it. When friends came to visit and saw it, they asked me where I had gotten it. I told them I wrote it myself, and they asked if I would write name poems for their children.
Before I knew it, I was writing name poems for the ladies at the office, at the bank, at the post office – word was getting around about my name poetry. What started as one personalized poem for my own daughter soon grew quickly, and I sat down one day and wrote more name poems and took them to a small local craft fair and sold all of them in one day, and I even took many orders that day for names that I didn’t have with me. I tried to find “ready-made” name poems, but there was nothing like it on the market, so I decided to write them myself. We still offer such a unique item, and I’ve yet to see duplicates of my name poetry by any other companies offering personalized gifts.
I also want to share a special story about a sweet little boy named Matthew (which, by the way, means “a gift from God”). One year, I decided to write name poems for all of the children in our former (small) neighborhood for Christmas. Matthew came to our house a few months later – his parents were divorcing and he was moving away – sweet little Matthew told me he was very sad that this parents were getting a divorce but that every day he read his name poem and it made him feel so happy and then he gave me the sweetest hug. I had tears in my eyes as he told me this. Today, Matt is an EMT and one of the most caring, compassionate people you could know. He even assisted me and Lindsey after a (thankfully minor) traffic accident we were in a few years ago.
It was soon after that that I decided to try to make a true business out of my poetry. I decided to “make the leap” and stay home with Lindsey. I turned my faith over to my higher power – I worked at craft shows on the weekends while my husband, Kent (“Boo”) watched Lindsey (or they came along with me). I stayed home with her during the week while Kent worked at his full-time job. It was a juggling act, for sure, but I am so happy we did it. I was able to capture precious time with my little one – who is now all grown up with a young son of her own!
Kent ended up working with me full-time and we travelled up and down the East Coast selling my name poems and meeting literally thousands of wonderful customers over the years. I was able to grow the names from about 50 to over 10,000 in the 25+ years we’ve been in business. Kent even created the beautiful backgrounds we now offer, so it has been a true collaboration. What started as 3 backgrounds that I bought from an outside source, grew to 85 due to Kent’s artistic talents. We are sure to have the name you are looking for, and I am always happy to write a name poem, at no extra charge, in the rare event we don’t already have it!
In closing, If you are struggling with a decision and feeling “trapped” – please know that you have the freedom and the power to live your dream. You just need to have faith, and sometimes you just need to “hand it over to your higher power” (whatever/whoever that may be for you). Your decision may change your life, and you never know how your decision may touch others.
Thank you for reading “my story”! I hope you enjoy browsing our website, reading the name poems for your loved ones, and seeing all the different variations of backgrounds and mats that we offer!

My husband and I met you at the Southern Women’s Home Show in Orlando, FL around 2002 or 2003 I believe. We ordered 3 name poems for our 2 daughters and son. They still have them hanging in their rooms and they are all in their 20’s now. Our oldest is expecting her first child in June and asked me if I knew who had created their poems. I definitely didn’t have the business card anymore Lol, but my youngest daughter noticed your name at the bottom of the poem. So we looked you up online, and found your site. My daughter is so excited that we found you, and we will now have a name poem for her little girl Charlie just like all of theirs. We love them so much that I also purchased one for my “honorary grandchild” Elijah. Thank you for creating these wonderful poems, they are very special.
Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful story! We are so lucky to have great customers like you, who are now ordering from us for the “next generation.” It is truly an honor and a blessing. Thank you, again, Shannon! Sincerely, Sharon
